Night at Musa: the lit turquoise pool, festoon bulbs over the brick wall, a hammock and guests at the pool edge while a staff member serves drinks. Three guests in Musa's plunge pool with colourful drinks, under a cascade of fuchsia bougainvillea and brick walls.

The hidden paradise

A hidden garden in Santa Marta.

In the El Prado neighbourhood, a few minutes' walk from the Historic Centre, Musa keeps a courtyard of brick and bougainvillea, a small turquoise pool and a path of leaf-painted stepping stones. It's a boutique hostel for resting, meeting people and heading back into the city whenever you feel like it.

  1. A garden to slow down in

Hammocks, bougainvillea, warm lights and corners to read in. Having no plans counts here too.

  2. Sociable, never chaotic

People from everywhere and nights with atmosphere, live music now and then, but never a party hostel.

  3. Santa Marta within reach

The Ziruma trail is a 6-minute walk, the centre 18 minutes and El Rodadero a short taxi ride.

The pool

Take the day slowly.

A small, shallow pool with turquoise mosaic, bougainvillea over the water and hammocks a step away. For floating with a book, the midday dip, or lingering at the edge once the lights are on.

A day at Musa

From the first dip to the last toast.

  1. 7:30

    Wake up slowly

No alarm. Soft light on the bed, the courtyard still quiet and the whole day ahead.

A private room with a white bed, blue patterned cushions and runner, tropical-leaf prints and a wooden window.
  2. 11:00

    The dip

Turquoise water, a book that gets a little wet and bougainvillea overhead. Here, having no plans is a plan too.

Morning in the courtyard: a guest reads in the pool beside the brick wall, under bougainvillea branches.
  3. 15:00

    Siesta or massage

The hammock calls. Or a hot-stone massage, somewhere between the pool and a nap.

A hot-stone massage in a brick-and-timber space with paper lamps.
  4. 18:00

    The lights come on

The garden changes mood: warm bulbs, the stone path glowing and a Monte Verde at the bar.

The garden path: round stepping stones painted with green and blue leaves, warm lights and bougainvillea beyond.
  5. 20:30

    Nights that stay with you

Tacos from Ta'contento, music now and then and conversations that run long beside the lit pool.

The pool lit up at night, framed by trees and hanging bulbs, with the palm-roofed bar at the back.

Experiences

Flavours, massages and long nights.

It all happens in the same house: the garden bar, the taquería, a massage between dips and, now and then, music and BBQs under the lights.
